Construction of a new plant tower to facilitate the planned major redevelopment of The London Clinic. The project was administered under the NEC 3 Form of Contract and was constructed in the middle of a working hospital environment.
Building on our experience from previous contracts for The London Clinic, we were appointed to construct this strategically important first phase of an ambitious expansion plan for the site on the basis of our solutions to some difficult access, logistical and environmental challenges.
The scheme consisted of an eight storey steel frame building on top of a reinforced concrete basement and clad with terracotta tiles and baguettes. It has been designed to house all capital plant for the facility and the baguettes are removable to allow additional plant and equipment to hoisted into position in future projects.
The site is situated within a previous demolished lightwell surrounded on three sides with ’live’ hospital buildings. Several services diversions were incorporated into the construction programme, which were undertaken without compromising the hospitals vital day to day operations.
